Gone

I'm gonna have to put my blog on hold for a wee bit because of personal reasons. Something has come up that needs my attention. I'll be back though, this isn't the end!

#WaitingOnWednesday (7)

I do a lot of Jennifer L Armentrout books but that's because she is one of my favorite authors. I have favorite book series but usually I don't like two book series by the same author because it feels like they just rehashed their charcters with different names. With Jennifer's writing I always feel each person is their own.

Author: Jennifer L Armentrout

Release Date: 2015

There isn't much known about this book yet, but it's going to be amazing!

Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft - A Review

Summary

One of the modern Wicca's most recommended books, this comprehensive text features a step-by-step course in Witchcraft, with photographs and illustrations, rituals, beliefs, history, and lore, as well as instruction in spellwork, divination, herbalism, healing, channeling, dreamwork, sabbats, esbats, covens, and solitary practice. The workbook formats includes exam questions at the end of each lesson, so you can build a permanent record of your spiritual and magical training.

Book Breakdown

I've read quite a books on Wicca and witchcraft for research, everyone recommended this book to me. Even Goodreads said this was a book I needed to read. I think it's very informable and he does go into so much detail. It's all laid out there for anyone to pick up and follow. I enjoyed this book and learned so much. I do have a few gripes though. I know some people don't have a problem with Skyclad worship and such but I think it's totally unneeded. What you can do naked you can do just as well in clothes.

He also mainly only touches on Coven worship. Most often today witches are solitary and so this book isn't quite as helpful for them. Lots of people hate on Silver Ravenwolf but she is better for the solitary witch if you ask me.

If you like this path of witchcraft then Buckland's is the way to go. He really does seem to have all the details worked out and for that I give this book 4 stars.

Song of the Week (4)

Song / Bury Me

Artist / Breathe Carolina

Album / Savages

Year / 2014

This song does have some dirty language so if that bothers you, don't keep going with this post.

Lyrics

Heart rate even, in my sleeps even, in my dreams
I skip to self coma, push back around of the, taste of your breath

Fuck repercussions, that don't mean shit to me
It's always focused right, right where it needs to be

They say I'm a sinner, tonight I'm just a thief
Hold your heart for ransom, away with me
It turns out she's a killer
Bury me in concrete to my teeth (away with me)
Bury me, bury me, bury me
Bury me in concrete to my teeth

I'll need you, every sleep to you, upon your dreams
No love when you wake up for God no longer, come on and love

Not repercussions, they never think of me
It's always focused right, right where it needs to be

They say I'm a sinner, tonight I'm just a thief
Hold your heart for ransom, away with me
It turns out she's a killer
Bury me in concrete to my teeth (away with me)
Bury me, bury me, bury me
Bury me in concrete to my teeth

I don't wanna be tied down
Not surprised, I'm buried alive
I'm dead for all you know
You don't wanna be alone
When you open your eyes and I'm alive
You should have never left me breathing

They say I'm a sinner, tonight I'm just a thief
Hold your heart for ransom, away with me
It turns out she's a killer
Bury me in concrete to my teeth (away with me)
Bury me, bury me, bury me
Bury me in concrete to my teeth

I love this song. I know a lot of fans have said that Breathe Carolina has sold out to go more mainstream and hopefully get bigger but I've been a fan since the very first album and while it does sound different it's still good stuff. This group/band/duo or whatever they are now are amazing and I never get sick of listening to their music. They are amazing!

Top 5 Jennifer L Armentrout Series

The Return (Titan #1) just came out last week and in honor of it I'm doing a Top 6 for my favorite author's books, in no particular order, naturally. I could never choose one all time favorite. Could you?

1)  Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something... unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

2) The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi pure bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals--well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

3) One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne… it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

4) Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.

But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

5) Some things are worth waiting for…

Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she’s has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

Review - Pure (Covenant #2)

Summary

There is need. And then there is Fate. Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's other half is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her. When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon--and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude--or killing her. When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

Book Breakdown

Where do I even start!? This book just blows the first one right out the water! I thought this series would have to go downhill after the amazing start to the series -Half-Blood- but I was so wrong. This one kicks it off into high gear with more deimon attacks and even on the covenant itself.

But to me it really gets good when they leave for the New York covenant. Alex gets closer to Seth and even decides to give him a chance. I am enjoying this love triangle! In this book though, I'm feeling Seth a little more. Although, I do think he his hiding something major from Alex and I don't like that.

My favorite part was the ending! So much happened and everything is going to Hell. Furies try and kill Alex and Aiden has to stay behind and clean up her mess. I love how the plot flows so flawlessly, nothing drags on too long and every single scene was something I enjoyed.

The characters really grew in this book. Mostly Alex, she is still getting into trouble but I assume she is finally starting to understand her destiny and how it's going to shape her life. She still loves Aiden though and can't seem to let go even though she should.

All in all, this book is amazing and if you enjoyed the first, this one is even better.

Favorite Quotes

“Aw, did you just fall?"
"No." I rolled onto my back, wincing. "I attacked the floor.”

“Ever since I’ve met you, I’ve wanted to break every rule.” Aiden turned away, the muscles in his neck tensing. He sighed. “You’ll become the centre of someone’s world one day. And he’ll be the luckiest son of a bitch on this earth.”

“So...uh, you're a Team Edward kind of guy?'
He snorted. 'No. I'm Team James or Team Tyler's Van, but apparently neither of them won by the look of it. She's still alive.”

#WaitingOnWednesday (6)

There is no cover art yet and on Goodreads there is no summary but I can't wait to read it! I really think that Roth won the poll. Which is what I wanted anyway. I don't ever do cover reveals but I will for this book.  White Hot Kiss is the very first Jennifer L Armentrout book I ever read and I was just hooked. Her writing is amazing and the worlds she builds... perfection.

Expected publication: July 28th 2015

That seems way too long to wait for something so epic...

Review - Life As We Knew It

Summary

Miranda’s disbelief turns to fear in a split second when a meteor knocks the moon closer to the earth. How should her family prepare for the future when worldwide tsunamis wipe out the coasts, earthquakes rock the continents, and volcanic ash blocks out the sun? As summer turns to Arctic winter, Miranda, her two brothers, and their mother retreat to the unexpected safe haven of their sunroom, where they subsist on stockpiled food and limited water in the warmth of a wood-burning stove.

Told in journal entries, this is the heart-pounding story of Miranda’s struggle to hold on to the most important resource of all--hope--in an increasingly desperate and unfamiliar world.

Book Breakdown

This is not one of my favorite books, it's a bit too sad for me. I will say that this books has stuck with me since the first time I read it to my younger sister years ago. I've read it many more times since then. I just can't seem to get this book out of my head, it's hauntingly beautiful book.

Imagine if the world right now was to completely change, food would be very scarce. Water hard to get, no AC or heat. No school. No nothing. Some many people would die without their prescription medication. People would kill each other for food.

This book is very dark, but it could've been darker. I honestly believe if something like his happened, this book wouldn't fit. There would be more killing and death. Humans wouldn't do very well in this kind of thing.
In this book we follow a young girl named Miranda. She is a very nice young girl and I honestly think she handles this whole moon crises as well as any young person can. She does her best to help her family all while dealing with having her whole life flipped upside down and ripped from her.

I'd say this is an amazing book that everyone should read. I've yet to read the rest of the series but I'm going to. I will warn you though, this book with stay with you for the rest of your life. You'll find parts of the story popping into your head for no reason.

The writing is so simple and I enjoy that. It makes this whole world so much more vivid and terrible. I really think is book will always make you grateful that you live in the world you do. It sure made me feel so thankful nothing like this has happened to us.

Favorite Quotes

“I guess I always felt even if the world came to an end, McDonald's would still be open.”

“I wonder if I'll ever have to decide which is worse, life as we're living or no life at all.”

Song of the Week (3)

Artist: Inkubus Sukkukus

Song: Wytches

Year: 1994

Album: Wytches

Lyrics

Come join with us in our rune tonight
And feel the circle spin
Let your spirit soar in the lunar light
As the Spiral Dance begins

(Chorus)
Come with us speeding through the night
As fast as any bird in flight
Silhouettes against the Mother Moon
We will be there soon

When the spinning ceases you can dance no more
Kiss the silent earth
We will tell our children of the Ancient Lore
At the moment of their birth

(Chorus)

Isis Astarte Diana Hecate Demeter Kali Inanna (repeat)

Darksome night and shining moon,
East, then south, then west, then north
Hearken to a Wytches Rune,
Hear we come to call ye forth!
Earth and water, air and fire,
Wand and pentacle, and sword,
Work ye unto our desire,
Hearken ye unto our word!
Cords and censer, scourge and knife,
Powers of the Wytches blade,
Waken all ye into life,
Come ye as the charge is made!
Queen of Heaven! Queen of Hell!
Horned hunter of the night,
Lend your power unto our spell...
ISIS ASTARTE DIANA HECTATE DEMETER KALI INANNA!

I own nothing. I just am really loving this amazing song. I hope you do too.

5. The Fault in Our Stars

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.

Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning-author John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife-between desire and danger.Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue--Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is--she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are--and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, Tris also learns that her secret might help her save the ones she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

When the Mayflower set sail in 1620, it carried on board the men and women who would shape America: Miles Standish; John Alden; Constance Hopkins. But some among the Pilgrims were not pure of heart; they were not escaping religious persecution. Indeed, they were not even human. They were vampires. The vampires assimilated quickly into the New World. Rising to levels of enormous power, wealth, and influence, they were the celebrated blue bloods of American society.

The Blue Bloods vowed that their immortal status would remain a closely guarded secret. And they kept that secret for centuries. But now, in New York City, the secret is seeping out. Schuyler Van Alen is a sophomore at a prestigious private school. She prefers baggy, vintage clothes instead of the Prada and pearls worn by her classmates, and she lives with her reclusive grandmother in a dilapidated mansion. Schuyler is a loner...and happy that way. Suddenly, when she turns fifteen, there is a visible mosaic of blue veins on her arm. She starts to crave raw food and she is having flashbacks to ancient times. Then a popular girl from her school is found dead... drained of all her blood. Schuyler doesn't know what to think, but she wants to find out the secrets the Blue Bloods are keeping. But is she herself in danger?

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Yes... I love k-pop. I used to be in love with Girls' Generation until Jessica was removed... now I just cry and wish Jessica would come out with something solo. This though... this made me laugh and smile and the bright colors are so cute! Amber = Awesomeness

Summary

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I've worn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we've got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I've seen someone who shouldn't be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Book Breakdown

It's been a wee bit since I read this book but what I remember most is the relationship between Katy and the ever so perfect Daemon. They go through so many ups and downs and with Blake (or was it Bilbo? Bob?) coming into the picture, things get worse. Daemon also shows his sweet side and it's just... perfection! He is so swoon worthy. I will say to me personally, this book isn't as good as the first one but it's still so amazing. Grab a copy and join the Daemon Invasion!

“I always liked you. From the moment you first flipped me off.”

“Oh holy alien babies everywhere!”

“Sure. Whatever. She’s all yours.”
Daemon grinned. “That she is.”
My hand was twitching to connect with his face. “I am not yours.” A small part of me wanted his to deny my words, though.
“Shush it,” he said, walking up to me.
“How about I shush it right up you—“
“Kitten, your language is so unladylike.”

“You're not dying,” he said.
“How do you know?”
His eyes latched onto mine. “Because I'd never let that happen.”

Set against the glittering backdrop of present-day Los Angeles, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches from the warlock-run nightclubs of the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica.

Book Breakdown

*SPOILER ALERT*

Alex is very headstrong and snarky half-blood. I love how she is a strong young woman. Though I will say I've read quite a few Jennifer L Armentrout and I've yet to see a weak female (which I love!). Her mother took her away from the Covenant a few years back and she has been living - trying to live- as a human. Then something goes wrong and they get attacked by a Daimon. Believing her mother died in the attack, she tries to get to the Tennessee Covenant but something goes wrong...

Aiden is the love interest and a pure blood. He is the one who saves Alex and takes her back to the Covenant. He also agrees to train her and get her up to speed with her peers. He also develops feelings for her. Which is forbidden as pure bloods are not to dilute their blood.

Seth... oh Seth. He is hilarious and also the Apollyon. He comes into the story maybe midway through and helps Alex discover very important things about herself. He is also very sarcastic and full of himself. Who wouldn't be with his kind of power though?!

The story is actually pretty predictable. It turns out her mother isn't dead and that she has been turned into a daimon and is going to come after Alex. Also it's pretty damn obvious how she will be the second Apollyon with how she is reading about them in the textbook some chapters before. Even though I saw everything coming, it's still amazing! I enjoyed every single page and found myself never wanting to put it down.

There has been a lot of comparisons between Vampire Academy and Half-Blood. I loved both books. I can see huge similarities between them. They both have a strong 'half' female lead, forbidden love from a guy who trains her, a reason for leaving the school before the start of the book, and an almost sex scene. Yes, I'm sure there are even more but honestly, what does it matter? I honestly prefer this book to Vampire Academy. It's so great. If you haven't read this series yet, grab a copy and get ready to be sucked into an amazing world.

Song of the Week (2)

Artist - Simon Curtis

Name of Song - Joshua

Year - June 7, 2011

Album - RA

Genre - Electronica/Dance-Pop

Lyrics

I'm so tired of people always saying that I'm a good person, 'cause I'm not
It's like, if they could only see what was in my head

Little boy's coming to his own
He's gotta make some big decisions 'cause he's grown
He's gonna get a rude awakening if he don't realize
Who really loves him, who lies

Don't you ever stop to wonder if they love you
When you look into the mirror do you see the truth
Or do the voices in your head have got you confused
Do they make you wanna say

I-I'm not who you think I am
I-I-I-I-I'm not who you think I am
I-I-I-I-I'm not who you think I am
Who I am
Who I am
Who I am
I'm not a good boy

Wonder if you ever stop and think
About whatever happened to me
Did you ever maybe think that I was victimized
By those who said they loved me, they lied
Don't you ever stop to wonder if I love you
When you look into the mirror do you see the truth
Or do the voices in your head have got you confused
Do they make you wanna say

I-I'm not who you think I am
I-I-I-I-I'm not who you think I am
I-I-I-I-I'm not who you think I am
Who I am
Who I am
Who I am
I'm not a good boy

Ooh, do you know that you broke me down-down-down
Ooh, and I'm letting it go, I'm breaking it down-down-down-down
Ooh, forever I know you've broken it down-down-down-down
Ooh, I just want you to know you can turn it around

I-I'm not who you think I am
I-I-I-I-I'm not who you think I am
I-I-I-I-I'm not who you think I am
Who I am
Who I am
Who I am
I'm not a good boy

I-I'm not who you think I am
I-I-I-I-I'm not who you think I am
I-I-I-I-I'm not who you think I am
Who I am
Who I am
Who I am
I'm not a good boy

This isn't about you
It's about me

I don't want to go into too much detail about how I connect with this song but it's amazing. I love his voice and the message. I also really love the Nightcore version. Yes, I am one of those 'weird' people who love Nightcore. But I love most every kind of music, from Metal to Country. I'm that kind of person. So what song are you really loving right now? What is your favorite genre of music? On a final note, I hope you all enjoy this song.

Top 5 Book Releases in February 2015

This is in no particular order. It's something that just came to me the other day. I'm going to start doing this the first of each month. It can be any genre but most will be either Young Adult or New Adult. Very rarely do I ever read an actual Adult book. What books are you most excited for this month? Without further ado here is the list:

1. Red Queen

Expected publication: February 10th 2015

Reading Level: Young Adult

Author: Victoria Aveyard

Summary

The poverty stricken Reds are commoners, living under the rule of the Silvers, elite warriors with god-like powers.

To Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from The Stilts, it looks like nothing will ever change.

Mare finds herself working in the Silver Palace, at the centre of
those she hates the most. She quickly discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy Silver control.

But power is a dangerous game. And in this world divided by blood, who will win?

2. The Return (Titan #1)

Expected publication: February 17th 2015

Reading Level: New Adult

Author: Jennifer L Armentrout

Summary

The Fates are cackling their bony asses off…

It’s been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they've given him have been violent and bloody–which is kind of alright with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He’s got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.

Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy’s deal might be, but it’s a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympic sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.

But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

3. The Ruby Circle

Expected publication: February 10th 2015

Reading Level: Young Adult

Author: Richelle Mead

Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives.

After their secret romance is exposed, Sydney and Adrian find themselves facing the wrath of both the Alchemists and the Moroi in this electrifying conclusion to Richelle Mead’s New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series. When the life of someone they both love is put on the line, Sydney risks everything to hunt down a deadly former nemesis. Meanwhile, Adrian becomes enmeshed in a puzzle that could hold the key to a shocking secret about spirit magic, a secret that could shake the entire Moroi world.

4. A Darker Shade of Black

Expected publication: February 24th 2015

Reading Level: There has been a lot of discussion if it's actually Young Adult or not...

Author: Victoria Schwab

Summary

Kell is one of the last Travelers—rare magicians who choose a parallel universe to visit.

Grey London is dirty, boring, lacks magic, ruled by mad King George. Red London is where life and magic are revered, and the Maresh Dynasty presides over a flourishing empire. White London is ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. People fight to control magic, and the magic fights back, draining the city to its very bones. Once there was Black London - but no one speaks of that now.

Officially, Kell is the Red Traveler, personal ambassador and adopted Prince of Red London, carrying the monthly correspondences between royals of each London. Unofficially, Kell smuggles for those willing to pay for even a glimpse of a world they'll never see. This dangerous hobby sets him up for accidental treason. Fleeing into Grey London, Kell runs afoul of Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She robs him, saves him from a dangerous enemy, then forces him to another world for her 'proper adventure'.

But perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, Kell and Lila will first need to stay alive — trickier than they hoped.

5. Shutter

Published February 3rd 2015

Reading Level: Young Adult

Author: Courtney Alameda

Summary

Micheline Helsing is a tetrachromat—a girl who sees the auras of the undead in a prismatic spectrum. As one of the last descendants of the Van Helsing lineage, she has trained since childhood to destroy monsters both corporeal and spiritual: the corporeal undead go down by the bullet, the spiritual undead by the lens. With an analog SLR camera as her best weapon, Micheline exorcises ghosts by capturing their spiritual energy on film. She's aided by her crew: Oliver, a techno-whiz and the boy who developed her camera's technology; Jude, who can predict death; and Ryder, the boy Micheline has known and loved forever.

When a routine ghost hunt goes awry, Micheline and the boys are infected with a curse known as a soulchain. As the ghostly chains spread through their bodies, Micheline learns that if she doesn't exorcise her entity in seven days or less, she and her friends will die. Now pursued as a renegade agent by her monster-hunting father, Leonard Helsing, she must track and destroy an entity more powerful than anything she's faced before . . . or die trying.

Lock, stock, and lens, she’s in for one hell of a week.

            My Thoughts

*From NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Who hasn't at least one time in their life woke up from a dream and wished they knew what in the world it meant? I dream almost every night and I find myself wondering what if my own mind is trying to tell me something? I found this book and inside did a little happy dance. I use this book every morning and it actually does help. I've learned a few things about myself and what my mind was trying to tell me.

I'd been having the same dream for a while now, it's always about an old crush of mine. One that never went anywhere. I like him and he likes me but something or someone was in the way. Like in one dream, he had a twin sister who loved him and wouldn't let him near me. The other was his friends saying I wasn't good enough for him and it kept going. This book helped me to see what the dream actually meant and now I've not had it since.

Last thoughts: I'd buy a copy for all my friends if I could. Give this book a chance, you will not be disappointed!

Fall With Me

Expected publication: March 31st 2015

Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.

Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.

But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn't believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.

My Review

*I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

I came from a very religious family. I was taught anything that wasn't what we believed was wrong and that they were going to Hell unless we could get them to see the truth. I no longer believe that of course. But I do believe there is a higher power out there. I believe in a God/Goddess. This is the very first book I've ever read about witchcraft and I happened to really enjoy it. I loved it because it wasn't over my head. I still understood everything. I learned so much! I found myself sucking in every word like I was in a trance. It's also good for someone who has lost their Pagan ways because of their busy life and just want to reconnect. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone interested in the subject matter. My favorite part was the clear writing the author had. It was like she was in front of me speaking. I wish more authors would take this approach in this genre.
